Do re me fa so-Theory for Video

Hi Good day!
Interesting + disappointing + feeling helpful towards people who just watched the Video of Do re me fa so,... without knowing what it is about.

Watch the video :
Video-Do re me fa so
http://nav-justanyrandomtopic.blogspot.com/2010/02/video-do-re-me-fa-so.html

Let me tell you, if you can add in to this, please do that:

This is a song 'Do re me fa so la te to'.
Its from the movie: Sound of music

This movie as the name suggests is about music. Here the nanny or teacher for children in the house is teaching them basics of music.

When you say basics, you have to start with notes which are Do re me ... .
In indian music, notes are Sur which are Sa re ga ma ...

Sing them as Do re me fa or Sa re ga ma ... You will see or notice they are the same :)

The teacher in the song is giving examples of similar sounding words for each note so that its easier for the children to remember. So it goes like:

Doe, a deer, a female deer
Ray, a drop of golden sun
Me, a name I call myself
Far, a long, long way to run .....

I still remember bits & pieces of the movie we were shown in school by our Sisters(Nuns) during a free lecture when I guess was in 2-3rd standard. We had been taught to sing the song by the same sister few days before. Imagine how amazed we were to see the video of the same song & we could relate to the music, words, the actions, expressions we were taught. To the amazement of Sister we all started singing along in chorus & had her repeat it couple of times :)

They say Music has no barriers. Its true, see how the naming changes but the music remains the same & can be understood by one & all.

Here are the words/lyrics: Maria is the teacher's name & the other are the children

Let's start at the very beginning
A very good place to start
When you read you begin with A-B-C
When you sing you begin with do-re-mi

Do-re-mi, do-re-mi
The first three notes just happen to be
Do-re-mi, do-re-mi

[Maria:]
Do-re-mi-fa-so-la-ti
[spoken]
Let's see if I can make it easy

Doe, a deer, a female deer
Ray, a drop of golden sun
Me, a name I call myself
Far, a long, long way to run
Sew, a needle pulling thread
La, a note to follow Sew
Tea, a drink with jam and bread
That will bring us back to Do (oh-oh-oh)

[Maria and Children:]
[Repeat above verse twice]

[Maria:]
Do-re-mi-fa-so-la-ti-do
So-do!

[Maria: (spoken)]
Now children, do-re-mi-fa-so and so on
are only the tools we use to build a song.
Once you have these notes in your heads,
you can sing a million different tunes by mixing them up.
Like this.

So Do La Fa Mi Do Re
[spoken]
Can you do that?
[Children:]
So Do La Fa Mi Do Re
[Maria:]
So Do La Ti Do Re Do
[Children:]
So Do La Ti Do Re Do
[Maria:]
[spoken]
Now, put it all together.

[Maria and Children:]
So Do La Fa Mi Do Re, So Do La Ti Do Re Do
[Maria:]
[spoken]
Good!
[Brigitta:]
[spoken]
But it doesn't mean anything.
[Maria:]
[spoken]
So we put in words. One word for every note. Like this.

When you know the notes to sing
You can sing most anything
[spoken]
Together!

[Maria and Children:]
When you know the notes to sing
You can sing most anything

Doe, a deer, a female deer
Ray, a drop of golden sun
Me, a name I call myself
Far, a long, long way to run
Sew, a needle pulling thread
La, a note to follow Sew
Tea, a drink with jam and bread
That will bring us back to Do

Do Re Mi Fa So La Ti Do
Do Ti La So Fa Mi Re

[Children:]
Do Mi Mi
Mi So So
Re Fa Fa
La Ti Ti
[Repeat above verse 4x as Maria sings]

[Maria:]
When you know the notes to sing
You can sing most anything

[Maria and Children:]
Doe, a deer, a female deer
Ray, a drop of golden sun
Me, a name I call myself
Far, a long, long way to run
Sew, a needle pulling thread
La, a note to follow Sew
Tea, a drink with jam and bread
That will bring us back to

[Maria:]
[Children:]

Do . . . So Do
Re . . . La Fa
Mi . . . Mi Do
Fa . . . Re
So . . . So Do
La . . . La Fa
Ti . . . La So Fa Mi Re
Ti Do - oh - oh Ti Do -- So Do

:) Watch the video again & read the lyrics too. Now you will have more fun like I did.

If you check on youtube you will find many more videos where the song is played in stations & all people start dancing. This is totally not on the spot, they rehearse 2-3 times before & then do this Live for pure fun. I am glad they did it.

If we were shown this video in school, the next sports day/teachers day/annual day we would have choreographed dance on the song making all the girls participate. What Fun! I still miss my school days :( ;)

Like Vrushali posted in her comment: The hindi movie Parichay is inspired by Sound of music.
Check the comment & watch both the movies.

I am going to do that soon.

Enjoy PPL. Have a gr8 weekend.

Article: Creative Flow

Hi Good day!
Have you ever been getting up in the morning with a tired feeling or pain in the back & shoulders@end of day? Ever wondered why, apart from too many long hours sitting@ your desk?

This article was just the thing to describe & answer by own questions:
http://zenhabits.net/2010/02/creative-flow/

It talks about 'Flow', a term we use often: Go with the flow, dont resist it. Change is the only constant, ....

But do we actually know what we are talking about apart from physiological talk?

This article is short & really motivates you to go 'WITH THE FLOW' ;)

Quoting some quotes from the article:

If you’re not flowing, it’s probably because you aren’t allowing yourself to be challenged, you’re completely overwhelmed, or someone else is holding you back.

There is also the story of how the author Ray Bradbury of Fahrenheit 451 wrote his book in record time & how the novel wrote itself, effortlessly.

If you aren’t flowing, you’re not reaching the peak of your ability. There is so much untapped hidden potential in flow, just waiting to be retrieved.

Read the article, do expect me to summarise it for you :P

:) Bye. Take care & Wish you all the best to come back in the Flow we humans so miss.

Short Story: Life without Obstacles

Hi good day ppl!
A best friend sent this short story over mail. Do read it.:

If God Allowed A Life Without Any Obstacles ....

A man found a cocoon of a butterfly. One day a small opening appeared; he sat and watched the butterfly for several hours as it struggled to force its body through that little hole. Then it seemed to stop making any progress. It appeared as if it had gone as far as it could and it could go no farther.

Then the man decided to help the butterfly, so he took a pair of scissors and snipped off the remaining bit of the cocoon. The butterfly then emerged easily. But it had a swollen body and small, shriveled wings.

The man continued to watch the butterfly because he expected that, at any moment, the wings would enlarge and expand to be able to support the body, which would contract in time.

Neither happened! In fact, the butterfly spent the rest of its life crawling around with a swollen body and shriveled wings. It never was able to fly.

What the man in his kindness and haste did not understand was that the restricting cocoon and the struggle required for the butterfly to get through the tiny opening were God's way of forcing fluid from the body of the butterfly into its wings so that it would be ready for flight once it achieved its freedom from the cocoon.

Sometimes struggles are exactly what we need in our life. If God allowed us to go through our life without any obstacles, it would cripple us. We would not be as strong as what we could have been.

:) Smile & say thank u to every obstacle, coz its making u stronger & better. But that is a case when you label a situation/thing/person as an obstacle ;)

What say? Think about it. :)

Bye. Tc. Have a gr8, productive, satisfying week ahead.
