Movie Review: Jobs (2013)

Greetings People,
A Movie review, a first on this blog. Though I think of writing reviews for many movies, I never end up doing it. So before I forget this one, here is my review of the movie about Steve Jobs life called Jobs.
We watched the movie at home on New Years eve.

Movie Review: Jobs(2013)

I am not a fan or know much about Steve Jobs. After reading Connect the Dots by Rashmi Bansal, this quote by Steve Jobs was on my Facebook-About Me-Favourite Quotes:

“You can't connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backwards. So you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future.” -Steve Jobs
Read the book review here

The movie is written by Matt Whiteley and directed by Joshua Michael Stern. The movie casts Ashton Kutcher who looks a lot like Steve Jobs.
One of the best part of the movie is the casting. Every actor plays his or her character perfectly. Ashton as Jobs has done a wonderful job of portraying the smile, gait, hunch while walking, pressed lips when thinking, fits of anger, pauses when speaking to magnify what he wants to express... can actually picture the real Steve Jobs alive again. Other characters like Wozniak Apple co-founder, Mike Markkula as their first investor, John Sculley as Pepsico's CEO also play their parts to perfection.

Think different, get inspired

Watch the Trailer here:

I like songs, dialogues, background scores, characters, emotions depicted in movies.
Some quotes I liked from the movie:

The movie starts with Steve Jobs dropping out of college and a professor trying to encourage him to finish college for which he replies-
Professor: A degree is a waste of time now?
Jobs:  Well, for some.  For some it offers validation.
To his friend he explains: I’m not dismissing the value of higher education; I’m simply saying it comes at the expense of experience.

One day Wozniak shows him a new thing he is working on called Operating System by which Jobs is impressed and encourages Wozniak to present it at a computer fair. Woznaik is not convinced so Jobs points out:

You can see what you’re working on while you’re working on it! That is Freedom!
How can somebody know what they want if they’ve never seen it?

Steve Jobs motivates his team with quotes like-

Great artists, Dillon, Picaso, they risked failure.  And if we’re going to do something great, we have got to risk everything.

You’ve got to have a problem you want to solve, a wrong you want to fix.

You can’t look at the competition and say we’re going to do it better.  You’ve got to say we’re going to do it different.

Everything around you that you call life was made up by people no smarter than you.  Embrace it [life]. Change it.  Improve it.  Make your mark upon it.

We’re going to put a dent in the universe.

You may see them as crazy.  We say they are genius because the ones who are crazy enough to think they can change the world usually do.

He was a perfectionist. He always was hell bent on getting a design, layout, minute details right and importantly-SIMPLE
We’ve got to make the small things unforgettable.

In your life you only get to do so many things and right now we’ve chosen to do this, so let’s make it great.

To Pepsico's CEO then John Sculley:
Do you want to sell sugar water for the rest of your life?  Or do you want to change the world?  Well, then come with me.

While recording for an Ad:
Here’s to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The trouble-makers. The round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see things differently…they change things. They push the human race forward. And while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius.

It was an awesome movie to watch. Being a software engineer myself, could relate to most of it.

It has spurred me to try, learn, do, create something different, something simple, something I really would like to use and would care about.

Hope to read the book too, to keep the motivation going.

Watch it, if you havent watched it still.

Have a great, relaxing, fun filled weekend!
Bye. Take care.

Incident: Give food to the needy

Greetings of the Season to everyone!

This time of year, everyone feels glad, hopeful, kind, helpful,... in short all things good.
Watching lot of Kindness, pay it forward, Xmas feeling,... videos these days. They all tug at your heart & make you teary. Make you think & want to do something good too.

Image from Mumbai Mirror

So yesterday got down at Sion, to get some work done. After that was proceeding towards my bus stop. Passed a guy selling fruits. There was a girl-don't feel like calling her a beggar, but she was poorly dressed, had some balloons in her hand must have been trying to sell at the traffic signal. She was begging the fruit seller to give her a fruit. I passed by after watching her plead repeatedly & the seller shooing her away.

I know there are these entire families around Sion, who send their kids to pester travelers for money. I always give them food. Sometimes it might be something from my tiffin which I haven't been able to finish but is not tasted. If I leave without doing something about it, it torments me for days. So now my habit is to take action according to my capacity.

Yesterday I didn't have any. I passed by, I kept looking back for my bus & unconsciously looking for the girl. She was still there with the sad look on her face. After going few minutes ahead, I retraced my steps. There was a lady selling bananas. Bought half a dozen bananas for Rs.15, gave it to the girl. Told her to stop pestering the fruit seller, go home & give these to her mother. She and the fruit seller just looked on. Didn't want to lecture the fruit seller, cause he was trying to do business and these children must be a daily thing for him.He had fruits like apple, strawberry, watermelons,.. which are anyways costly.  He didn't look the mean types and must be giving these kids the bad fruits whenever he could. But from experience know these people and kids are very persistent and arrogant when they notice you softening.

At least I could sleep peacefully yesterday. Hope the girl and her family did too. Hope she gets a good education. Leads a better life.

Dont know how these small deeds will help but would do them instead repent not doing anything about it.
One deed at a time !
Other deeds:
Incident: Your take on this
Incident 2: Your take on this
Incident 3: Your take on this
Incident 4: Your take on this

Have a great week ahead !
Happ New Year !

Event:Mood Indigo IIT, Mumbai Fest 2013

Hii ..wassup people!!
Well on 23rd December I went to MoodI or Mood Indigo at IIT-Powai. I decided to check it out with my friend on Monday late afternoon. My friends-classmate (a long big connection I know) stays  in IIT-Powai campus. So she decided to be our guide in that huge colony(you may get lost if you wander around alone.. :P)

So mood indigo  or  fondly called moodi is –Asia’s Largest cultural fest which is held every year at IIT-Powai in the month of December. This year moodi was organised for 4 days from 20th December to 23rd December 2013. These 4 days had various activities arranged in categories of-all 4day events, entire day, competition, in-formals etc. This year they had a Chinese theme!!

For more info visit:

So along with her we went for a tour of IIT-Powai...
The entrance is a Chinese gate with beautiful vibrant colour with mood indigo painted on it. The entire event area was decorated with Chinese lanterns and lighting's. All along the way you had posters and banners of sponsors and stalls.
The main entrance to the fest!!

We went roaming  around the campus which is huge ..we got tired  but continued on as the paths were filled with people enjoying the cultural fest of IIT-Powai which gave us energy and the spirit to enjoy even more!!

We finally stopped near the sumo-wrestling stand (sorry couldn’t  click a pic). After looking for a while, we decided to go to the auditorium near it (we have no idea of what was going on there...were all confused!!)

The sumo-wrestling ground and other events that were going on!!
In the auditorium, the Humour-Fest show was going to begin. The auditorium was fully packed and there was no place to sit. So we stood watching.

The full packed auditorium!!pheww!!
A German  guy came up on the stage in half pants  which belonged to  his father, it was long one once upon a time and he had cut it in half as it was too hot (he joked about it), was skinny, bald and wore a white shirt with suspender!! He introduced himself as Schorosh Bross from Eureka convo group.

He interacted with the  audience, cracking numerous joke and comments (guess that's what makes a great comedian). He had numerous instruments or trick which had the audience in fits of laughter a lot!!

Schorosh interacting with a guy from the audience

Schorosh on one-tire-cycle with a broom on his forehead and 4 rings that goes on top of the broom!! Was a very superb-thrilling performance!!
After the show ended we headed again for the tour of the campus. There was one ground which held the R1 racing cars (which was very exciting to see as I had not seen them before in reality). The event was called Sahara Force India Pitstop Challenge. Sorry, We were the only spectators there..(haha).

The ground also had a statue of a laughing Buddha which was lying on his side and laughing (funny fellow) and had Chinese lanterns hung all over the place, which looked very lovely and beautiful.

The laughing buddha!!

We picked up one of the Chinese lantern’s which was lying down as souvenir for us .:P

To end the awesome day at IIT-Powai ,we went to the IIT-Powai Lake for a walk! The sun was setting down and the cool-atmosphere made it all the more special ( sone pe suhaga types). After a few clicks and little chit-chatting we made our way home.

Hope you all loved the tour of mood-indigo!!
So have a super-fantabulously lovely day ahead!!:)
