Event: Drape a Smile, Initiative by JAMMs

Good day People !
Happy Diwali Everyone ! May you have a fun-filled, prosperous, healthy Diwali :)

We are celebrating Diwali with much fan-fare. But there are some who cant afford a basic sweet on those 5days.
JAMMs has taken up an Initiative for the Woman of the House, to drape them in a Saree and give them something to deck up in this festive season. Our target is 910 sarees by Nov 14th, 2016.

One of the Initiative I was part of earlier with JAMMs:
Event: Mast Santa organised by JAMM's, one bag leading to empowerment

Drape a Smile, Initiative by JAMMs

DRAPE A SMILE – JAMM’s 5th Social Initiative

JAMM’s unveils its latest social initiative ‘DRAPE A SMILE’, where all the ‘Mast Moms’ of the JAMM’s network are being encouraged to donate sarees for underprivileged women who are less fortunate than us. The goal is to collect 910 sarees to commemorate the 910 days that JAMMs network has been in existence.

Mothers from all walks of life know the meaning of the word ‘sacrifice’. Even the upwardly mobile metro dwellers have had to sacrifice their time and career at the altar of motherhood. But these underprivileged women give up so much more – to ensure their children and families have a happy Diwali, they slave away to make the basic sweets and use their meager savings to buy their children new clothes – there is seldom anything left for themselves. During a festival where new clothes are almost de rigueur; these women do without!

Almost all of us have some sarees packed away which we have never used, either because they were gifted to us and not quite our style, or merely because we don’t feel like wearing sarees. This is the perfect opportunity from JAMM’s to not just de-clutter your closet but do a good deed this festive season as well. 30 drop points have been set up across the city by volunteer moms to streamline the process of donating sarees. The saree donation drive will continue till 14th November 2016.

Think about it, this Diwali as a woman in some corner of the country is draping her new saree gifted by you she is also draping a smile on her face. That joy is simply priceless!

So collect all the sarees you havent used in a while and go drop them at the centers mentioned. I have collected a few, how about you? Glad to be part of JAMMs :)

Greetings People !

But still would like to share the wonderful experience we had of making Ganesha Idols in an eco-friendly way thanks to JAMMs and The Culture Studio. Introductions ! Getting to know more about the Teachers, JAMMs and The Culture Studio

JAMMs, our no-nonsense only Momsense Mommy group tied up with The Culture Studio to conduct this fun & learning workshop for kids and mommies. It gave the kids a glimpse into the Ganesha festival, unique experience to play with hands with Shadu (natural clay from river beds), tenacity to complete something, satisfaction of creating something so divine. All the mommies agreed it was like meditation or had a calming experience on each of them.
Step by Step we make our Ganu Bappa !

Thanks to the Teacher Pankaj Patil and his team who very patiently taught step by step how to make the Idols. The way they explained it in simple terms gave us non-crafty-hands moms confidence that we can do justice in making a good-looking Ganesha ;)

Event: Mithai Cupcake workshop by Chef Anees at APB Studio with JAMMs

Good day!
Another JAMMs workshop at APB Studio :)

My nevadya to my Bappa: Mithai Cupcakes with Modak filling and grated coconut frosting :)
This is what my Bappa got as Nevadya from my side. Each year I try to make something different for Ganpati. Thank you Chef Anees, Chef Rushina, APB studios and JAMMs for teaching me this :)

This was a Mithai Cupcake workshop by Chef Anees of  StarAnise P√Ętisserie.
The festive season is coming soon and I was thinking of what to make for Ganpati which is eggless and can be served as Prasad. Last year I had made Coconut center white chocolate modaks. So this workshop was perfect for me. Check what I made for Ganpati at the end of the post.

We registered and I was thrilled to be at APB studio again. The first I had attended Event: JAMMs Book Club meet and Book Reading by Kiran Manral

So 25 JAMMies gathered at Yummy Mummy Chef Rushina's APB Studio in Andheri East. Know more about the studio at:

Chef Anees has his own P√Ętisserie at StarAnis . We started with basic introductions and questions by Chef Anees about baking. Then we made batter for Cupcake and different fillings and flavors of Mithai for the Cupcakes. We made the Modak filling Cupcake and the Gajar Halwa flavored Cupcake.

How to make them look drool worthy was shown by Chef Anees. Trust me, they were yum to the core :) He showed how we can let our creativity run amok with these mithai flavours and cupcakes. The other cupcakes he had pre-made to show us as example. The workshop was hosted by Sprig and we used Sprig Natural Color extracts instead of Oil based or Food Colours.

Chef Rushina gave us a classy and now-in-trend dessert idea: Mithai Jar Dessert. We had fun watching how she piled all the sugary sweet flavors and decorated it with a lil sparkle by Chef Anees.

The JAMMs mommies. A lot of them are Home Bakers and their questions, tips helped others to understand a lot about baking. Chef Anees kept giving small small tips like why your cakes become hard when batter is stirred a lot or why they dip or sugar and its types or shops to buy your baking stuff from.

Event: Greek Food PopUp by Dont Give a Fork and Lady MacBake

Good day people !
On Sunday 31 July, we were invited for a Greek Food Popup since we Won a couple pass to their Twitter Greek Contest. Lucky me !
I have heard about Food Popups happening and seen pictures of Payal Bhuptani's Sri Lankan Food PopUp. But this was the First time I was attending one.

Greek Food PopUp by Dont Give a Fork and Lady MacBake

Payal owns Don't Give a Fork blog. She is a food blogger, an ice cream marketer, superb Chef among many other things. Payal cooked the non-veg dishes for this popup. Her FB page: Don't Give a Fork

Her Co-Chef Upasana Maheshwari owns Lady MacBake and you should see her FB page: Lady MacBake! Amazing !

So I was super excited to go for this Food PopUp. Also after reading the Menu, the Eggetarian me was a little relieved.

Food PopUps are organized by people who want to cook something different and invite people to eat and pay for these exotic delicacies.

Don't Give a Fork has done 7 such Food PopUps. They are anything but ordinary cuisines. From Sri Lankan to South African to European to our Current one Greek !

The latest which we were attending the Greek Food PopUp was at Road House Bluez, Andheri West. Its a cool place. Check the pics and you will like it.
I even blogged about that Huge Bulb at entrance: Bulb Jala?

Their Bar is well stocked, Hubby tried a Local beer called Bira & he liked it. I liked its Logo :D Cute Monkey, isnt it ;)

Payal's hubby Pratyush is a lead guitarist in band Twist to break Seal and he along with his friend kept us entertained with some lovely Live numbers. Some Retro some Originals by their band. It was a superb experience of Good place, weather with cool drizzles, good food and foot-tapping music Live.

Chicken Souvlaki, Hubby loved it
The Non-veg Entree was Chicken Souvlaki. Greek Chicken Skewers marinated and grilled with some lovely herbs. Hubby loved it.

The Veg entree was Saganaki Greek Cheese deep fried. It was totally different than the Cheese you have here. Salty and the deep frying gave it a crunchy top layer. Tip: Squeeze Lime to enhance the taste.

Spanakorizo and  Patatokeftedes with Mushroom Stifado
The Main course was heavy :) In Veg we had Spanakorizo, a pilaf. I Googled it, Pilaf is a dish in which rice is cooked in a seasoned broth. Here it was made of 3 ingredients: Spinach, Rice, Feta all cooked in vegetable stock and garnished with Dill leaves.
Then there were these 2 fluffy balls and mushrooms sauce. The balls were made from potatoes, cheese and herbs. Deep fried and superb to taste, gave lovely company to the mushroom sauce.
The rice portion was too much for me to finish :D

Soutzoukakla. Image from:
The non veg main course dish was Soutzoukakla which is lamb meat balls cooked in traditional greek passata. Hubby polished it off.

Galaktoboureko with Kourabledes crumble
The desert was delicious. Not too sweet and too bland. Perfect! I liked the Golden brown phyllo pastry which had a lovely scent too it. Read the description in the menu and you know there is so much to it. Not a crumb to be left behind, mind it !

Ok, now I am stuffed and ready to go to heaven (read bed). But we wait to meet the 2 Chefs who were busy in the kitchen and we can give our compliments before we leave.

Upasana Maheshwari and Payal Bhuptani
Here are the 2 lovely magic weaving ladies. Clap and Pat on your backs for such a lovely experience!
Cheers to 100more Food PopUps!

Thank you so much for organizing and inviting us. Loved it and would surely spread the word.

Event: Umbrella Painting with JAMM mommies and kids at Bright Beginnings Preschool, Thane

Greetings People,
This is a late post for a fun activity me and my son were part of. It was a mother-child Umbrella Painting workshop at Bright Beginnings Preschool at Talaopali, Thane for JAMMies.

We were asked to get an Umbrella, paint brush, fabric paints and oh yes kid(s). I know the attention span of my 3yr old and his artistic side so I didnt expect much.

My son has been to Bright Beginnings Preschool for the Jungle Cubs Summer camp they conducted in May. He and his friend had fun going there for 10days to jump, hop, crawl, shoot hops, climb, do cart wheels,... basically FreePlay, everything which kids love doing in and this being in a padded secure space so good for us parents.

Bright Beginnings Preschool is a brain child of Shweta Nayak and Benita. They are 2 enthusiastic women who have brought a different aspect to preschool and teaching.

We had the teachers from the preschool to help us. With our Umbrella's unfurled, the teacher asked the kids what theme they wanted to paint on the umbrella and drew with chalk raindrops, rainbows, clouds, sun, moon, stars,...

The kids depending on their age painted with the fabric paints assisted by their mommies. They were going to choose winners so everyone tried to paint their best. It was a riot of colors in the room, umbrella, hands, clothes :D Next time I am going to make my kid wear an apron ;)

In 1 hour we had recycled, makeover-umbrella's set to dry. Till the umbrella and their paint dried, we did a round of introductions and asked Shweta to tell us more about the Preschool.

The Bright Beginnings Preschool has:
-Preschool for toddlers
-Daycare. You can keep the kids on hourly basis too apart from 6days a week. I am going to try the hourly basis daycare sometime soon as my kid loves the place, I am sure it will be great.
-Russian Ballet: This is first time in Thane. There are basic and advanced batches for little ballerinas :).
-Story telling sessions
-Manners and beyond session
-Jungle Cub session
-Mother-Toddler programs
-They are soon going to start a Book Exchange program.

We announced 3 winners and the kids were pulled out of the Play area where they played to their hearts content.
It was fun meeting so many JAMMies again and also get to know Bright Beginnings Preschool. The event let us mommies relax and let the kids have fun around their mommies. It was a great bonding activity for fellow mommies and mother-kids.

Event: Poetry Tuesday, Thane at Cafe Verve

Good day people !
Didnt I tell you Thane is becoming one of the Happening places ;)

So recently I was introduced by my Poet+Author friend to the concept of Poetry Tuesday(PT) happening in Thane since 5years. It happens on first Tuesday of each month, currently in Cafe Verve, opp Talaopali and very near Thane station west side. Its an initiative by MaxMeet Social.
Best part Entry is Free and anyone can join.

So last month I decided to join my friend. Like all poetry sessions, this starts at around 8pm and goes on till 11pm or till Cafe Verve doesnt shut down :) Btw Cafe Verve is an awesome cool Cafe, lovely quite place, good range of coffee/tea/snacks/drinks,... a superb place for meetup, chill or work.

This was their 58th PT and also anniversary celebrating 5years completion. The entire show is organised and anchored by Anish Vyavahare and his team. They decide a theme each for each Poetry Tuesday. For this it was 'Night time' and you recite your poem on the Theme. The best part each Poet or Poetess gets a chance to recite their verses.

I like many of them was part of the audience, loved every minute of the session and was till the end. Listening to so many young and young at heart recite some lovely rhyming verses, I would have too penned down a line or two ;)

Snapping your fingers in repetition is a way of applauding without interrupting the Poem, I got to know here.

Since this being their anniversary they had a lot of announcements to make. They are going Big now. Making a website, publishing an illustrated anthology of poems from their poets, starting PT Special which will exclusively feature a few of their best Poet or Poetess.
Crowd for Poetry Tuesday 58, Cafe Verve, Thane

The next is happening tomorrow on 5th July 2016 and its Theme is 'Close quarters in the Rain'.
Check out their FB event: Poetry Tuesday 59 - Close Quarters in the Rains!

Join in even if you cant string two rhyming sentences together like me.

I hope to join in as many times as possible for PTs and their other activities.

Kid Attraction: The Riot Room, Thane India's Largest Indoor Soft Play Area

Good day!
I have a restless toddler who left alone will either disassemble something or be stuck to the TV. I encourage more of physical and outdoor play. So I am always looking for activities he would love to do and get some kid company too.

I had heard a lot about The Riot Room and that too in THANE !

Check or
A2, Kothari Warehouse No. 3,
Near Laxmi Snacks,
Opp. Happy Valley, Tikuji Ni Wadi Road,
Manpada, Thane (W),
MH 400607

Contact no: 022-2589 5930 / 9987397186

The first time I went to The Riot Room to inquire about a class conducted there, my son went crazy and I was awe struck with the cheerful look of the space.
The class was cancelled so I ended up chatting with a fellow mommy while both our sons went berserk inside the Play-area :)  It being padded, kid friendly, lot of staff to monitor and help kids... we both mommies relaxed watching our kids from the adjoining sitting area for parents.

Next time I was enthusiastic when our Mommy group JAMMs conducted a  JAMMs Thane meet up and Play-date at The Riot Room. We were there for more than 2hrs and my son now knew the place in & out. The owner Hardika Lakhani, encouraged us mommies to join the kids inside the Play-area. With Socks ON, as we entered the Play-area my son whooped in joy, excitedly showing me all the places, nooks and corners and his favorite parts of the Huge Play-area.

The third time I went equipped to spend a full hour with my son and camera.

The end result is this Visual tour I had fun compiling. I will list out the points I liked and from the talks with the friendly mommy owner of The Riot Room. Hope the pictures tempt you to give TRR at least visit. I am sure you will keep going back.

The entire purpose of The Riot Room is FREE PLAY. The Riot Room gives the space, security, opportunity to let kids enjoy, indulge, explore themselves exploring the different sections of the Play area. The kids interact with other kids, get to know their own strong + weak areas and how to overcome them, take decisions,...

Once you enter The Riot Room, you can see the bright, cheerful look of the place. You remove your shoes, go to the Registration counter, fill out the form, wear your socks and play to your hearts content.
At the registration counter you will be charged on per hour bases. Socks are compulsory for kids and adults entering the playarea. You can buy the socks if you dont have them.
The age group allowed for kids is 1-12years. There is a separate Toddler Area where younger kids can have fun. Believe me its fun & my son spends half the time there.

There is a sitting area for parents where you can order some delicious snacks and drinks.
But by experience I would suggest you wear your socks and go join your kids for half the time there. Believe me, you will enjoy it and your kids will Love to have mommy-papa to explore with them.

This can be easily India's Largest Indoor Soft Play Area. I love the fact that its
  • Huge 5500sq ft. Beat that
  • Is open 7 days a week from 12 pm -8 pm.
  • Has different sections inside the playarea
  • Safety even in design is topmost priority
  • Is hygienic coz I have seen them clean the entire playarea everyday
  • The stuff the area is made off is toxin free so don't worry if your crawler licks or bites into the mesh/balls/ropes
  • The staff is plenty + friendly and keeps an eye on your kids
  • Parents are encouraged to join. Have heard of grandparents becoming kids once inside :)
  • Socks compulsory rule applies to everyone...Its for your own and others kids+adults hygiene, safety
  • No photography and Food allowed inside the Playarea.(I took special permission as a blogger to shoot) I am thankful for that Rule, coz I am guilty too, asking for the kids to pose or distracting them in their activities with our click-happy mentality.
  • The pantry serves fresh, hot, yummy food....  I end up packing 1 pizza home every time
  • The washrooms are clean...From personal experience they have comfortable potty seats, extra slippers to wear, baby diaper changing table,... what else can you ask for
  • The Cost per 1 hour equals 1 movie ticket in a I would rather come here and have a ball ;) There are offers going on, memberships,... Read till end to know an Offer.
  • They arrange some super cool Birthday parties and events here. So if that thought has crossed your mind of getting more friends here, they have some lovely packages to offer. Check their website:  or ask at Registration desk.
  • Give your email id when filling the form, they will send you update of offers and other activities conducted there.
Lets check out the Playarea...Still I havent photographed each sq ft of the Playarea ;)
There are I guess 3 levels inside the Playarea. Bet, if you can find the easiest way to the top :D

The kids have to use their brains and hand-eye-feet coordination everywhere in the Playarea.
All senses alert!

I call it the Obstacle course.

Loved the way they have designed the entire area. Sometimes you will jumping on tree stumps, climbing steep & curvy steps, rolling over, punching the different cute punching bags, go past swiveling doors, crawl through tunnels, slide on slides, jump into ball pools, blast some balls at imaginary enemies, ....

Loved these cute punching bags
These cute bags are hung at strategic locations I guess to stop kids from running in between corridors. There are these cute curtains everywhere separating tiny cubicles with a theme each.

They have a huge bouncy Trampoline. Adults can use it too, but only if you ask the staff and there are no kids on it.
Maze or Bhulbhulaya type of alleys. Rock climbing section, tunnels, climbing ladders,... everything which will sweetly exhaust you and your kids :)

40ft Slide ! Lets go !

The Main attraction is the 40ft Slide. I loved the Owl themed rock climbing besides it. My son will take a different route each time we aimed to climb and come down the slide. Finally up the slide and it was a whizzzz fun to slide down this curvy slide... Dont worry the entire area is thickly padded and your kid will be safe & on its feet once down the slide. Also 1 staff member is always at the top and bottom of the slide to keep a watch.

Ball play
Kids love ball pools and here they have 2 of them. One for toddlers complete with ball pool at end of the slide so that the kids slide and jump into the pools. The other is in the main Playarea. They have some bouncy balls on the upper section. The Ball Blaster is another attraction for kids. My son is there max time and I keep asking the staff where he is, to be told shooting Balls :p.

You will immediately see the efforts put in making this place, by all the little details which will fascinate kids and parents alike. There are cute quotes on the walls. My sons favorite are the hanging helicopter, submarine models and the wall mounted games in the Toddler Area.

The Birthday parties here are a Hit. From the Theme, to the food to the games organised, the decorations,... Something different always. The Riot Room team will take care of everything for you, when you book a party with them.

So the Ongoing offer at The Riot Room:

Take a selfie with your kid(s) on the TRR Throne. Give a review on the The Riot Room Facebook page and get additional 30mins Free :)

Give us feedback about what you liked about The Riot Room soon :)

Event: Mother's Day at KidZania Mumbai for #ZuperMomDay at #ZuperDayAtKidZania

Good day Everyone!
Its a week since Mother's day and I am still feeling the effect of it, Good and the Bad ! Good cause me,my son and hubby enjoyed a visit to KidZania Mumbai with JAMMs mommies. It was a super 5 hour outing. Bad cause my body was gladly exhausted and I am still nursing a bad cold :D

JAMMs in full force !
Have you seen the hoardings and ads for KidZania everywhere? Their slogan is:
Raho Curious, Bano Hoshiyaar
It is apt. You learn more with practically doing things and being curious instead of learning to do them. This theme park walks  its talk :)

Nevertheless, it was a memorable visit to the 75000 sq ft small city for Kids. Hence the name KidZania. We visited the Mumbai branch in R City Mall, Ghatkopar. Its an entertainment and educational theme park for kids. It allows kids to choose an occupation and pretend to be a doctor or a Fireman or a Policeman or a Construction worker.... Choose from 90+ occupation.

There are 2 slots in a day. We choose the 10am-3pm slot. At the Ticket counter you will be given Tickets, Map, a cheque, bracelet/watch, hair net. At the information desk you can ask all your queries. Since my kid is a toddler he was allowed 25 activities listed in the brochure.

Also the Highlight of the day as it was Mother's day or #ZuperMomDay at #ZuperDayAtKidZania, we mothers could choose any 5 out of 10 activities to do with our kids as their interns :D Its a privilege I feel as no parents are allowed for any activities. At the end of the day, Me and my kiddo managed to do 2 together.

First thing to do is convert your cheque into Kidzos, yes KidZania has its own currency. For some activities you pay, from some you earn. We had 50 Kidzos to spend.

The Yes bank for KidZania. The kids only will be given the Kidzos
While we decided what to do first, The Clock Tower was announcing the time with a little dance.
Clock Tower
There are two levels. These were some of the sections on the lower floor.
Parachute Hair Salon

Barber shop, come learn how to beautify people :)
Cadbury factory
Cute Dabbawalas delivering dabbas
Window cleaners

Kiwi fruit Quality testing lab

Godrej security vaults

They even have a petrol station and car driving area

For my kid the highlight of the day was to become a Fireman. He is crazy about the Firetruck, Firemen and how they douse out fires. So he was delighted to see that he could become a Fireman today. The one who cant sit still for 1 minute waited patiently till his turn came. Give his kidzos to the Fire chiefs. Listened to all their instructions. Wore the uniforms, rode the Firetruck with all its bells ringing and lights flashing. They got to douse out the fire in a Hotel with real water jets. He enjoyed that bit thoroughly !
Firemen !
The next on his agenda was the Construction site coz it had a working Crane. He loves being a carpenter at home, can operate a crane at his Papa's factory so this was similar and fun. They were given helmets, jackets. They had to work and build a wall. Transport heavy loads with the crane. At the end, they earned Kidzos. He was super surprised when he got money back :D

Construction workers.
There are eating areas, benches and a parents lounge on the upper floor with couches and free WiFi. We had a little bite to make sure our little tornado was recharged. His dad was already looking exhausted ;)

Next I decided lets do some Mommy-son activity. One of which was being with the Police force. The kids were given uniforms along with some nice light emitting sticks. They were given instruction about their role to maintain law and order in KidZania. They were asked to patrol both the levels and report any miscreants, so that they could be locked up in the cell. I joined the team in patrolling the area. It was fun stopping kids who were running, who were being loud,.. We earned again Kidzos for safe guarding KidZania :D I got a stamp on my Intern card, as activity successfully completed :)

On the upper floor you have more entertaining activities. We parents made a bee line for the Parents lounge. Got our WiFi passwords and my hubby got busy with his phone. In the mean while our kiddo tried his hand at being a Doctor. They were shown how to do checkups, pacify babies.

For babies there are 2 activities. One is ABZ Elementary school and the other is Urbano's house.

The Urbano's house has a living room, a kitchen with everything from a toy fridge, oven, fruits, vegetables, plates, bowls, Iron, coffee maker. The bedroom has bouncy beds which the kids have fun jumping on and a bathroom that has a bathtub filled with balls to throw around.

Mad over donuts, decorate your own donuts

Chocos factory

There were many factory setups on the upper floor but for older kids. There was the Cadbury factory, the Frooti factoy, Chocos, Coco Cola factory.

There are lot many other activities one can do like: Shiamak's Dance studio, Bollywood acting academy, Painting school, a theater, party hub,  Big bazar supermarket, face painting studio, pottery workshop, Radio stations, Journalists .... lots and lots. A day is not enough !

What I liked:
They ensure safety and entertainment of the kids at all times. The staff is attentive and cheerful. There is help available all around.
There are many clean bathrooms on both levels. There are feeding areas also available for young mothers. The kids have to wear the hair net for most activities. The bracelet/watch is scanned at start and end of each activity.

What I wanted more:
They have their own photographer who will click close up photos of your kids in gear at each activity and give a number on a slip for that photograph. At the end you can go to their studio show all the slips, select the photos you want a print of. But what irritated me was the Cost. Please. KidZania team, keep appropriate cost for each photo. I would have loved a simple print of those photos and not as a memento in the form of  a key chain or a frame.
Certain activities take up too much time. Some way to speed up.

This has got to be the most memorable Mother's day for me. Thank you KidZania Mumbai and JAMMs.
